🩺 Florida’s July 1, 2025 Background Check Requirement: What Out-of-State Healthcare Applicants Need to Know

(888) 498-2988 | National Live Scan Association® | Florida Healthcare Background Checks Due by July 1, 2025

If you’re applying for or renewing a Florida healthcare license but live out of state (like in California, Nevada, or even abroad), you may be worried about how to comply with Florida’s new fingerprint background check law. The deadline is July 1, 2025, and missing it could mean losing your ability to work or renew your license. The process can seem confusing, especially if you’re not in Florida, and you might not know where to start, who to trust, or how to avoid costly delays.

We make it easy: Our certified team at the National Live Scan Association® will guide you through every step, offering both Florida-approved Live Scan fingerprinting and hard card scanning options-no travel to Florida required. You’ll get clear instructions, personal support, and fast, compliant results.

The new rule applies to almost every health professional regulated by the Florida Department of Health, including:

  • Physicians, LPNs, RNs, CRNAs, APRNs

  • Therapists (Physical, Occupational, Speech, Respiratory)

  • Pharmacists (except as noted below)

  • Dentists, hygienists, optometrists, opticians

  • Psychologists, counselors, social workers

  • Dieticians, nutritionists, and more

It also applies to:

  • Initial licensure and license renewal

  • Reactivating or changing license status

You’re exempt only if you’re applying or renewing under Florida’s military spouse licensure pathway and your profession is:

  • Emergency medical technician (EMT)

  • Paramedic

  • Pharmacy intern

  • Registered pharmacy technician

  • Radiologic technician

For everyone else, or if you’re unsure, assume you must complete fingerprinting.

That’s where we come in. Whether you’re in California, Nevada, Arizona, or anywhere else, you can still complete your Florida Level 2 background check without traveling. We provide secure, Florida-compliant options for out-of-state applicants-so you can get licensed on time, stress-free.

If you’re in California or nearby, you can schedule a Florida-approved Live Scan fingerprinting appointment with us or one of our partner locations.

  • Your fingerprints are digitally captured and electronically submitted directly to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)-secure, fast, and compliant.

We also offer mobile fingerprinting throughout California and beyond. Need on-site service for your class, business, or group? Just ask! We’ll be opening up additional venues soon based on demand-contact us for details and to be notified as new locations open.

Prefer to stay local? Here’s how our Hard Card Scanning process works:

  1. at FloridaLiveScanFingerprinting.com to get personalized instructions and documentation.

  2. on FD-258 cards at any local police station or fingerprinting provider.

  3. and required forms back to us-we handle the rest.

  4. your prints to FDLE.

  5. and your Transaction Control Number (TCN) for tracking.

This option is reliable, accepted by hundreds of Florida healthcare applicants every month, and works from anywhere in the U.S. or abroad.

: Can I get fingerprinted outside of Florida?
A: Yes! Use our digital Live Scan or hard card scanning options-both are accepted by FDLE when done correctly.

: Do I get proof of submission?
A: Absolutely. You’ll receive a Transaction Control Number (TCN) after your fingerprints are submitted. Use it to confirm your submission and track your licensing board processing.

: What happens if I wait too long?
A: You risk missing your license renewal or application deadline. Appointments fill up quickly, and missing the fingerprint retention window means you’ll need a full (and more expensive) new screening. Delays can jeopardize your ability to work, start a new job, or continue practicing in Florida.

We recognize the many state agencies and dedicated professionals who make Florida’s background screening system possible-especially those serving in healthcare, social services, education, and public safety.

These agencies work together to protect vulnerable populations and uphold the highest standards for those entering licensed professions:

  • Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA)

  • Florida Department of Health (DOH)

  • Department of Children and Families (DCF)

  • Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD)

  • Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA)

  • Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ)

  • Department of Education (DOE – Vocational Rehabilitation)

  • Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)

And most importantly, we extend our deepest gratitude to the true heroes: the healthcare and medical professionals, and all those seeking licensure to serve Florida’s communities. Your commitment, sacrifice, and service-now and in the future-are what keep Florida strong and healthy.

This recognition comes from all of us at the National Live Scan Association® and our members across the state and beyond.
